What is CAPCE?CAPCE is the Commission on Accreditation for Pre-Hospital Continuing Education. It was founded in 1992 to develop consistent standards for EMS continuing education (CE). CapCE+1
Why is CAPCE important for EMS clinicians?Because CAPCE accreditation ensures continuing education programs meet quality standards — helping EMS professionals earn CE credit that is widely accepted. CapCE
Who started CAPCE?CAPCE was chartered by a group of EMS and medical organizations including the National Registry of EMTs (NREMT), American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP), NAEMT, NAEMSE, NAEMSP, NASEMSO, and others. CapCE
Accreditation & CE Acceptance
Is CAPCE accreditation required for the National Registry (NREMT) recertification?Not strictly “required,” but the National Registry accepts CAPCE-accredited CE. CapCE
Is CAPCE-accredited CE accepted by all states?Generally yes, but not universally automatically. Some states may have additional CE rules or limits, especially for “externally-accredited” (i.e., CAPCE) courses. CapCE
How do course completions get reported and verified?CAPCE requires its accredited providers to report course completions to the CAPCE AMS (Accreditation Management System), where states, the NREMT, and individuals can verify records. CapCE.
