Technology Enhanced Items Coming Soon! TEIs (Technology Enhanced Items) will soon be added to EMS Testing and Platinum Tests. We will also give instructors the ability to create these item types. While creating the items/selecting which TEI type works best for the question, we have found a few key things to note that make the items work as intended. Below is a list of each of our TEI types and suggestions for building the item type.

Option Box (check box)—This item type has the student check a box, much like a point-and-click survey. For example, a question listing signs and symptoms for a given history requires the student to select the most pertinent and the least relevant by clicking the box to indicate their response.

Ordered Response (Build-a-list)—This item type has a split screen, and items are moved into a single box and arranged in a specific order. Not all items must be used. This item type could have a list of up to eight (8) abnormal findings, and the student needs to arrange the three (3) abnormal findings and list them from most to least concerning in top-down order.

Drag-and-Drop- When using this type, the student must select all answers and move them into the answer options. Given treatment options for a scenario, move each treatment into the proper indicated or not indicated category. Multiple answers can go in each option.

Sequence—This item type can have multiple boxes; each answer must be moved to a specific spot. This could be used to match words with their definitions or even prioritize the order in which something is given. Each answer must be used, and only one must be per box.

Fill-in-the-Blank- This item type typically consists of a sentence or phrase, and the student provides the missing word or words.

Free Form—This item type works well if you want the student to provide short answers or essay responses to a question. The instructor will need to correct or grade this item type.

If you would like help utilizing the new TEI item types, you can schedule a training session with a trainer using the “schedule training” button on your dashboard. Just let us know in the training notes that you would like help with the Technology Enhanced Items.
