Respiratory Care Competencies updated! Attention Respiratory Care programs! We have added all of the AARC Competencies for Entry into Respiratory Therapy Practice 2016!
To use the updated competencies in your active courses, Go to Manage Courses on your dashboard and select “edit” the desired course. Go to the “Platinum Planner” tab.
Then go to the “Skills Requirements” tab. You can select “Show All” in the upper right corner to display all available skills. You can also select the Skill Source Display toggle to view your custom skills, existing Platinum skills, or the Respiratory Care 2016 competencies.
If you would like to add the RC 2016 skills, you can toggle off the “Custom” and “Platinum” Skill Sources so that you are viewing only the RC 2016, then choose “Select All”, then save at the bottom of the page. You can do the same for both lab and clinical competencies, depending on what you want to track in your program.
Once you enable the RC 2016 competencies, go to the corresponding lab and/or clinical class and be sure to enable the new competencies in the class(es) as well. To do this, go to the next tab titled “Classes,” then select “edit” the class you need
Then go to the class “Skills Requirements” tab. Be sure to display the “Inactive” skills in the upper right corner, and then you can “Select All” to enable the new skills. To use the updated competencies when creating a new course, you can use the updated course template:
Go to the Manage Courses tab on your dashboard and select “New Course”
Complete the cohort information and hit “Save”. Then click on the “Platinum Planner (not enabled)” tab and enable Platinum Planner by clicking on the green bar.

Now, you will select “Create based on a Template” in the first drop-down menu and “Respiratory Care – AARC 2016” from the second drop-down menu, then select Save.
All of the 2016 competencies will be enabled for both lab and clinical for your course, and you can now finish setting up the cohort and classes.
